Welcome to the Race Season

Welcome all Development, Interclub and Tristate families to the 2019 ski season from the Butternut Race Club. The Butterut Race Club is a non-profit organization run by a group of parent volunteers. Your membership in the club is automatic if you have a child enrolled in one of the race programs. The club is here to support the mountain’s race program. (Think of the Race Club as your school PTA.) The current Board is made of up 10 members and includes Parents, Coaches, the Director of Racing (Greg Knight) and Butternut’s General Manager (Dick McCann). Please reach out to any of the Board Members if you are looking to get involved, have questions, want advice, etc. You can reach us directly at butternutrace@gmail.com. We will be organizing family socials, offering race club merchandise, organizing volunteers for home races, fundraising, mentoring families new to the race world, and purchasing equipment to further support coaching and athlete development.

In the past year your fundraising dollars have been put to good use! The club has supported the the following items: covered the costs for coaches to attend post season events with athletes that qualified, subsidized the cost of the new team jackets, a start tent acquired for home races, a club insurance policy, the annual Race Club sticker that athletes receive at the end of the season, the white board and mailbox that have been mounted to the video building, heaters for the hand timers at races, additional warming capes for the athletes to use at the top of a race course, jacket bags used to bring clothing down from the start, USSA Alpine Pocket Guide for coaches, subsidized the cost of family socials, purchased drills and batteries to set gates, and the very important muffins and coffee for registration at the home races. The Board also advocated for and worked directly with the mountain to upgrade the speakers and we look forward to everyone being able to hear the announcer at our home races!

Meeting will be held with Greg Knight, Director of Racing and is mandatory that a parent for each athlete attends. If you cannot attend the appropriate meeting, please come to the other meeting.  

The meeting will be short and provide necessary information for the season.
Several Board Members will also be on hand after the meeting to answer questions.


Many hands make light work!  There is no shortage of opportunities to help out all season long: 2 home races (U12/14 on Jan 13 and Interclub on Jan 27), baking or working the annual bake sale, working to get items for the silent auction and raffle, working one of the family socials, etc. Positions on and off the snow. The expectation is that every athlete has an adult that volunteers at least once during the season

The mountain management has asked us to remind parents and athletes that the ski school line is only to be used during the hours the program is in session. If getting in line to go to lunch, please use the regular lift line. Please do not ski through the private lesson area on your way to the meeting spot which is located near the bottom of the walkway to the upper lodge. And finally, please be mindful of speeds at the base area.

Join us in the upper lodge for cocktail hour and snacks. Spend time with your athlete’s coaches, meet other race families, ask questions of the Board

Sat Mar 9 – End of Season Social & Fundraiser
Dinner, Silent Auction, Raffle
The biggest fundraiser of the season
New and improved raffle – shorter in length and bigger prizes!


Support the Butternut Race Club and purchase merchandise – hats, ski straps and Spyder insulators are available at the Race Club online store all season, until supply runs out.

Didn’t get to order a t-shirt or sweatshirt? We will be doing another run mid-January for delivery in February. Details coming soon.

Love the new team coat but didn’t order one? They are warm and dry! We will be ordering again in late Feb/early March for delivery in November 2019.  Details to come.
