Guest Speaker: Dr Jim Taylor plus DryLand Training on Nov 11

Come and meet Dr. Taylor on Saturday November 11th.

Dr. Taylor’s been a consultant for the United States and Japanese Ski Teams, the United States Tennis Association, and USA Triathlon, and has worked with professional and world-class athletes in tennis, skiing, cycling, triathlon, track and field, swimming, football, golf, baseball, car racing, among others. He has been invited to lecture by the Olympic Committees of Spain, France, Poland, and the U.S., and has consulted with the Athletic Departments at Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Taylor speaks regularly to elementary and secondary schools, parent and education associations, and youth-sports programs around the country and we’re thrilled he’s accepted our invitation to speak to our Race Club.

Dr. Taylor received his Bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College and earned his Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Colorado. He is a former associate professor in the School of Psychology at Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale and a former clinical associate professor in the Sport & Performance Psychology graduate program at the University of Denver. He is currently an adjunct faculty at the University of San Francisco.

Dr. Taylor is the author of 15 books including Positive Pushing: How to Raise a Successful and Happy Child (Hyperion, 2003), the four-book Prime Sport book series (iUniverse, 2002), Your Children are Listening: Nine Messages They Need to Hear From You (The Experiment Publishing, 2011), The Triathlete’s Guide to Mental Training (VeloPress, 2005), Dance Psychology for Artistic and Performance Excellence (Human Kinetics, 2016), Raising Generation Tech: Prepare Your Children for a Media-fueled World (Sourcebooks, 2013), Your Children are Under Attack: How Popular Culture is Destroying Your Kids’ Values, and How You Can Protect Them (Sourcebooks, 2005), and I Couldn’t Disagree More: Insight, Inspiration and Irreverence from an Idea Guy (2014).

Saturday, November 11th Schedule

On November 11th, Dr. Jim Taylor will be at Butternut to work with our parents, coaches and athletes in a series of workshops to prepare us for success during race season. In addition, athletes will have a dryland session and workout.

Schedule for the day:

9:00-10:00 Train Your Mind like a Champion (Athletes, coaches, parents)
10:00-10:15 Break
10:15-11:45 Positive Pushing: How to Raise a Successful Happy Child (Parents)
10:15-11:45 Obstacle Course time trials and Plyometrics (Athletes)
11:45-12:45 Lunch Break: Bring bagged lunches from home
12:45-1:45 Prime Ski Coaching + Q&A (Coaches, parents)
12:45-1:45 Circuit Training and Mountain Hike (Athletes)
1:45-2:00 Break
2:00-3:00 8 Attitudes That Make or Break Athletes (Athletes, coaches, parents)

Please note: Bring your own lunch as food will not be available. Please send athletes dressed for the weather. Rain or shine. There is no extra fee for this event.

The next and final pre-season event sponsored by Ski Butternut and the Butternut Race Club will take place on December 2nd. More details will be forthcoming. See you all on Saturday November 11th.
