Welcome December!

As we welcome in the new month of December, anticipation is building to get back on snow!  If Mother Nature cooperates, the snow guns will be blowing this weekend and Butternut will open next week.  Check the Ski Butternut website for updates.  Pending any calendar adjustments due to weather, please plan on the following dates:

Tristate U12-U19 begins on December 9th & 10th (9AM-2PM)

  • Meet at instructors’ lounge (9AM sharp)
  • Wear clothes for dryland training
  • Bring slalom skis and ski gear (which may be used pending snow coverage)
  • Bring snacks, beverages and lunch (no foodservice will be open)
  • Indoor activities with take place in instructors’ lounge or lower lodge
  • A full schedule is planned so don’t miss it!

Interclub begins on December 23rd
Christmas Camp begins on December 26th

Last month we hosted Dr. Jim Taylor for a successful session on the psychology of ski racing together with dryland training, and last weekend we welcomed Jay Ogle from SMS for our final pre-season event.  We want to thank everyone who participated in our Fall events.

In addition, many of our athletes and their families had the special opportunity to watch the World Cup Event at Killington and march in the parade together with clubs from throughout the region.  It was truly exciting to witness a World Cup race up close and in person.

Looking Ahead
This year, the mountain will build a brand new Video Viewing Center (VVC)!  As our race program further expands its use of video as a core element in our race training, a small mobile building will be constructed near the pine trees.  Coaches will be able to spend time with athletes viewing video together.  The Butternut Race Club plans to furnish the room with video monitors, wifi, chairs, heaters, tuning benches and more utilizing funds raised during last season.  In addition, plans are being developed to host a few additional training sessions on snow in- season with external coaches outside of our immediate program.  As plans are finalized more details will follow.

Think snow!
